After Sam Waler died of cancer, Judy married his older brother, Louis. Both Sam and Louis changed their name from Wealer to Waler when they married Judy. Everyone wore red at Judy's funeral, her favorite color, because she believed that it protected from a kinneh hurrah, a curse.

Shirley & Lou visited the Donsky’s on their honeymoon and then settled in the Bronx. Lou Herman worked as a clerk for the NYC Building Department. In the mid 1970s, he retired and they moved to Florida. Shirley married Sol after Lou died and after Sol passed away, Shirley kept company with Jesse, a proper southern gentleman, for many years. She and Jesse out-danced all of us at her grand-daughter Amy's wedding to Alan Zwerin’s. As of this writing, the family has celebrated her 96th birthday. She still volunteers at a senior center and at the Voter’s Registration Board.

After retiring as a City Housing Inspector, Lou worked as a consultant for about ten years helping engineers and contractors pass city inspections. Short and bow-legged, he was the nicest guy in the world. He always called his wife "Shirley dear" and referred to almost all females as "whomever" dear in a way that was sweet and not at all patronizing. When Thanksgiving dinner was at his house, he always gave the kids little bits of turkey to eat while he was carving it. It is one of my fondest memories of him. He had a special whistle to call people - Dah da, Dah da, Dah da - and always said "batchgaloo" or "baroom-ba-la-fatch." Lou is buried in the Briskor Society Section in Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY.
